Minimally Invasive Surgery - What is Laparoscopic Surgery

Minimally Invasive Surgery, known otherwise as Laparoscopic Surgery involves performing surgery through small incisions under the vision provided by a small camera (Laparoscope) placed usually through a tiny incision under the umbilicus (belly bottom).
The abdominal cavity is insufflated with gas (CO2) to make room for better vision, and the operation is performed looking at the monitors connected to the laparoscope.
By avoiding the large incisons, this cutting edge technology results in a much smoother and faster recovery.
In addition to the obvious superior cosmetic results, avoiding the large incision results in significant reduction of postoperative pain, allowing earlier hospital discharge, faster recovery, earlier ability to perform the daily activity, and hence going back to work!

Our group implements this technology for the majority of abdominal operations, ranging from gallbladder surgery and hernia repair, to the most complex colon and rectal resection and pancreatic surgery.
