Robotic Surgery - Robotics for general surgery and surgical oncology
In contrast to standard laparoscopic equipment, the “robot” offers surgeons several advantages, including better control, dexterity, and visualization. At a console a short distance from the patient, the surgeon views a real-time, highly magnified three-dimensional image of the surgical field—as opposed to the two-dimensional image available with a laparoscopic monitors. From this improved vantage point, the surgeon operates controls at the console, and those movements are replicated with great precision by the robotic arms at the bedside
The surgeons of University Surgical Consultants are trained in using the da Vinci robotic surgical system.
Using minimally invasive techniques with the assistance of the superior dexterity and viewing capabilities of the da Vinci surgical system, we can perform complex procedures through 1-2 cm incisions offering many advantages over traditional surgery.
For the clinically appropriate patient, laparoscopic robotic-assisted general surgical or surgical oncology procedures offer a number of potential benefits, including:
- Less post-operative pain
- Less risk of infection
- Less anesthesia
- Less blood loss
- Shorter hospital stay
- Faster and more complete recovery
- Quicker return to normal daily activities
